Welcome to Mrs. Knighton's website! I am the ESL Teacher Assistant (TA) at Ashley High School. I am so excited to be your teacher this year! When I was younger, I lived in Germany for about 10 years. I know what it is like to sit in another country while learning the language. I know what it takes to learn another language and have experienced the amazing feeling of acquisition. In college, I studied Spanish. I am still learning Spanish.

 

Language learning is a process, which means it takes time. In my classroom, you will need to practice speaking and reading every day. Even when you do not feel like speaking. I ask you to try! In this class, you will gain experience in writing, reading, listening, and speaking.  

 

¡Bienvenido a mi pagina de ESL! Soy Stephanie Knighton. Cuando era joven, viví en Alemania durante aproximadamente 10 años. Sé cómo se siente estar en otro país al tratar de aprender el idioma. Estudie espanol en la universidad. Estudié español en la universidad. Es un sueño para mí hablar español con confianza. Todavía estoy aprendiendo español y entiendo que aprender un idioma requiere práctica.

You will learn: 

-You will learn all about research strategies using MLA.  

-You will learn and write for different purposes.  

-You will learn how to cite sources. 

-You will learn how to annotate, and why annotating is useful.

-Presentations! Yes, that's right. You will learn to present using academic language and social language demonstrating your knowledge in presentations. 

-You will gain and use Reading Strategies.

-You will learn about how you learn.  

 

 

About me: I moved to Wilmington from Asheville, NC in 2015 with my husband and daughter. We brought with us our two pets; Wolfie the old wise cat and Phoebe, the greatly misunderstood dog. I love the beach, comedy, music, and books (of course!). I LOVE Harry Potter and will make Harry Potter references occasionally.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have an immense love for language learning and reading! I enjoy learning about other cultures and traveling. I grew up in Germany and other parts of the United States. I learned Spanish from UNCA, where I received my undergraduate. I wanted to teach English to learners from around the world. I am a recent graduate of the Watson College of Education at UNCW, earning a Master of Arts in Teaching ESL.
